The RDM6300 RFID Module is a compact, low-cost RFID reader designed to work with 125 kHz EM4100/EM4102 compatible RFID tags (not the 13.56 MHz MIFARE ones like RC522). It’s widely used in access control, attendance, and authentication projects with Arduino, ESP32, and other microcontrollers.
🔹 Key Specifications
Operating Frequency: 125 kHz
Supported Tags: EM4100, EM4102, EM4200 (read-only RFID cards, tags, and keyfobs)
Communication Interface: UART (Serial TTL, 9600 bps default)
Operating Voltage: 5V DC
Current Consumption: ~50 mA
Reading Range: ~2–8 cm (depends on tag and antenna)
Output Format: 12-byte ASCII data (tag ID sent over serial)
Antenna: Separate external coil antenna (included with module)
🔹 Pin Configuration (Typical RDM6300 Board)
Pin Description
VCC +5V power supply
GND Ground
TX UART Transmit (connect to Arduino RX)
RX UART Receive (usually not used, module is read-only)
ANT Antenna connector (2 pins)
🔹 Working Principle
The antenna generates a 125 kHz electromagnetic field.
When a compatible RFID card/tag enters this field, it gets energized and transmits its unique ID.
The module reads this ID and sends it to the microcontroller via UART (TX pin).
Arduino/ESP32 can then process the ID to allow/deny access or log attendance.
🔹 Applications
Access control (doors, lockers, gates)
Attendance systems
Identification and authentication projects
Smart locks
IoT security systems
